Title: Aapnu GPS

Medium: Mix media

Size: 17 x 10 x 14 cms

Inspired by the auto-rickshaw drivers of Ahmedabad city, this sculpture reflects the ethos of the city that is at once both modern and traditional, an ancient city that adopts new technologies while retaining its cultural heritage. Despite the GPS, people still prefer asking the auto rickshaw drivers for directions around the city, signifying the presence of the drivers’, integral to the city’s identity. Though the rickshaw in this sculpture is compact and small, it opens a window to a larger-than-life experience. ‘Aapnu’, meaning ‘ours’, invokes a sense of belongingness and ownership that the city has towards the auto-rickshaws.
