Title: Smoking Connaught Place
Medium: Galvanized Iron sheet, Copper sheet
Size: 65 x 30 x 165 cms
This sculpture is inspired by the sight of two drug addicts in the corridors of Connaught Place (Delhi) during my residency program at the Religare Arts Initiative. In the middle of the crowded market, the hallucinogenic effect of the drugs makes the addicts oblivious to the world. Like the birds that fly freely in the open sky, unaffected by what happens on land, the addicts literally and metaphorically smoke up their lives, hopes, dreams, and aspirations that disappear into thin air.
